Last night Lauren, Mary, Mary Kay and I went to see 27 Dresses. Although the movie was cute, this is not going to be a review of the movie. This is about the fact that I am 51 years old and I do not think that all of my dresses in 51 years total 27. Currently I have no, zero, not one dress in my closet! I tried counting the number of dresses I have had and I still can’t get to 27.
Now you have to take out the school uniforms because those were jumpers and skirts. You also have to take out the ones Mom put me in when I was an infant and toddler because those were years that I had no control over. I am sure though that I looked very cute in the dresses Mom put me in. Actually based on home movies I did look good in the yellow dress I was wearing while trying to skate when I was 2. But I digress, not really because I am going to tell you about all the dresses I have owned/worn.
The first dress that I remember wearing was my first communion dress, it was the prettiest one in the class I am told. The next one I remember was a brown empire waist (at least I think it was called empire) we have pictures of me wearing it at Christmas one year and at Elizabeth’s Baptism. That is 2 dresses so far and now I am in High School, where I wore 3 long dresses for proms, plus the one I wore in Marks wedding and one that I wore in Lynn Zanone’s wedding. That makes 7.
In college the only time I wore a dress was for a social, usually though I opted for the theme socials where I could wear jeans, but let’s just say I went to 5 formal socials, that makes 12 dresses, then there were about 4 more weddings, up to 16.
Okay since college, there were times with work that I had to wear skirts, but those don’t count. Living in this area during the winter you do everything you can not to have to wear a dress. You send regrets for dress up occasions, no matter how close you are to the person. The thought of wearing a dress with nylons and heels out in the snow and cold and wind just makes you depressed, so you really have a good reason not to attend the function!
Places I have worn dresses in the past 29 years, since I moved to Naperville:
1. Bradley’s Baptism
2. Bryan Zanone’s Wedding
3. Richard’s Wedding
4. Lauren’s Wedding
5. Katherine’s Wedding
Here we are, if my math is correct, and we all know how I am in math, it totals to 21 dresses. Now I am not saying that I will never wear another dress, and I have been told that they sell them in some stores up here, it is just that I prefer pants and I will say that if you add up all of my sweat pants, jeans, flannel pants and work pants, I do have 27 pairs of those!!!
I have been searching my pictures to add a picture of me in a dress, but I just can't seem to find one.

We'll have to take your word on that dress being yellow as seen in the soundless black & white home movies of the day.
You forgot my favorite!! You know the dresses Mom made you and me and Elissa - when we were migrant workers.
Dresses? Who even wears dresses anymore??? I think you look fantastic in pants! And they are sooo much more comfortable!XOXO
One more! You wore a dress to Barb & Todd's wedding. 9-26-92, there are pictures to confirm!
