Next Time Fried Chicken

Well, I am definately going to have to change my profession. In a previous blog I bragged that I came in 3rd in a Chili cook off at work, well this time we had a Brownie bake-off and I took 2nd place!!!

I called Daddy and asked him to send me the recipe for brownies from their original Joy of Cooking cookbook, I thought the recipe was on page 751, but I was wrong, it was page 663. I remember making them when I was younger and they were so good.

I am hoping the next cook off will be a Fried Chicken cook off!

Chili

There was a Chili cook off at work yesterday and I am proud to say that I came in 3rd place. Now before you start laughing and wondering how many entries there were, it was 7.

The funniest thing about this is I do not like nor do I eat Chili. The first time that I ever made Chili was 3 weeks ago. Johnny was up and I made some just for fun, he and Debbie and Mary seemed to like it a lot. So when the announcement came out about the Chili cook off I decided to enter.

Does everyone know that when you buy the package of McCormacks Chili Seasoning, there is a recipe on the back? Well it calls for hamburger meat, tomato sauce and 1 package of McCormacks Chili Seasoning, that's it and I came in 3rd!!!!

Need to Add 4 Dresses

I guess I am getting closer to 27 as I have either been informed or remember 4 other occasions where I have worn dresses.

And RJA, I do believe that at some point Pop did a color enhancement of our home movies, but maybe, just maybe I remember that the dress was yellow!! Not likely because I do have the CRS disease, hopefully you can figure that out.

EFM, I really don't remember the migrant worker dresses, but maybe Dad can scan it and send it to me and I can post it.

Weather update......cold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

0 Dresses

Last night Lauren, Mary, Mary Kay and I went to see 27 Dresses. Although the movie was cute, this is not going to be a review of the movie. This is about the fact that I am 51 years old and I do not think that all of my dresses in 51 years total 27. Currently I have no, zero, not one dress in my closet! I tried counting the number of dresses I have had and I still can’t get to 27.
Now you have to take out the school uniforms because those were jumpers and skirts. You also have to take out the ones Mom put me in when I was an infant and toddler because those were years that I had no control over. I am sure though that I looked very cute in the dresses Mom put me in. Actually based on home movies I did look good in the yellow dress I was wearing while trying to skate when I was 2. But I digress, not really because I am going to tell you about all the dresses I have owned/worn.
The first dress that I remember wearing was my first communion dress, it was the prettiest one in the class I am told. The next one I remember was a brown empire waist (at least I think it was called empire) we have pictures of me wearing it at Christmas one year and at Elizabeth’s Baptism. That is 2 dresses so far and now I am in High School, where I wore 3 long dresses for proms, plus the one I wore in Marks wedding and one that I wore in Lynn Zanone’s wedding. That makes 7.
In college the only time I wore a dress was for a social, usually though I opted for the theme socials where I could wear jeans, but let’s just say I went to 5 formal socials, that makes 12 dresses, then there were about 4 more weddings, up to 16.
Okay since college, there were times with work that I had to wear skirts, but those don’t count. Living in this area during the winter you do everything you can not to have to wear a dress. You send regrets for dress up occasions, no matter how close you are to the person. The thought of wearing a dress with nylons and heels out in the snow and cold and wind just makes you depressed, so you really have a good reason not to attend the function!
Places I have worn dresses in the past 29 years, since I moved to Naperville:
1. Bradley’s Baptism
2. Bryan Zanone’s Wedding
3. Richard’s Wedding
4. Lauren’s Wedding
5. Katherine’s Wedding
Here we are, if my math is correct, and we all know how I am in math, it totals to 21 dresses. Now I am not saying that I will never wear another dress, and I have been told that they sell them in some stores up here, it is just that I prefer pants and I will say that if you add up all of my sweat pants, jeans, flannel pants and work pants, I do have 27 pairs of those!!!

I have been searching my pictures to add a picture of me in a dress, but I just can't seem to find one.

Warm Today

We are having a heat wave here, the high today was 23 and tomorrow it is going to be 31. The forecast called for 1 inch of snow today. It started snowing at 4:30 when I left work and I went out and shoveled at 6:15, guess what it was 2 inches and it is still coming down. There will be more snow tomorrow.

Quote for the day:

Have a great weekend everyone!!

What was that?

Last night Mary and I stopped at the store at about 11:30, she ran in and I sat in the car waiting. After about 10 minutes I heard this terrible noise, it sounded like a gunshot. The car shook and I ducked because I thought I had just gotten shot. After about 30 seconds I got out of the car and walked to the back of the car and my back window was shattered!!! There was glass everywhere, all I could do was just stand there and look at it. I was standing there stunned wondering how it happened when someone came out of the store, looked at me and looked at my car and said "that sucks" and walked away.

Not sure why it shattered, the police came, but they didn't think it had been shot. Anyway they arrested some 49 year old man recently for shooting windows out of cars and office buildings, so it wasn't him and I am pretty sure we don't have a copycat shooter.

So some glass place is coming to the house to put a new window in tomorrow, because living up here you can't really ride around in the winter without a rear window.

Thanks for listenting, I feel better now.

My Day

I was not having a good day at work today. It started when I got in to work and one of my employees came to me with and eye that looked like she was a cyclops, she grabbed my hand and told me she thought she had pink eye!!!

Then, I have 2 employees that are responsible for issuing manual checks for our office, well one came up missing today, so that became a huge issue. We are still trying to locate the check in question, if someone took it my hope is that they will share! Just kidding.

But then, in the middle of the afternoon I got a call from my brother Aldo, he left me a voice mail on my cell phone saying, "Hi this is your brother, I am on a golf course in South Georgia with shorts on, what are you doing?" I called him back and told him I was in jeans and a sweater in a small cube working. Anyway, the point is he made me laugh and made my day better. He doesn't, however have the check I am looking for!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Love,
Carol

Happy New Year!!!

Hope everyone had a safe and happy new years eve and that 2008 will be a wonderful year for all!!

It snowed all afternoon yesterday, into the evening, and then again all day today. Mary and I spent most of the night shoveling snow. Between the 2 of us we have shoveled 5 times and all will be happy to hear that I never fell while I was shoveling. We realize at our ages it is easier to shovel 5 inches an inch at a time. Of course once we have shoveled, the city snow plows come by and pile all of the snow up at the end of the driveway, so we have a fortress at the end of the drive. I just go over it several time with my car and it packs it down.

John is up visiting, we didn't want him to feel left out so we let him shovel the last time.

Take care everyone, I love you all.
